31. Shopping in the Dime Store
A: Do you carry black ink? B: The ink should be next to the paper clips and thumb tacks in the stationary section, sir. A: I've looked, but I didn't see any black ink. B: Then I'm afraid there's none in stock. A: Well, I'll settle for blue-black. I'll also take a dozen airmail envelopes. B: They come in packages of ten or twenty. A: Give me a package of twenty, then. And where do I find shoelaces? B: On counter three. A: Thank you. I never can find my way around this store. B: I know. It took me three weeks, and I work here.

32. Trading Stamps
A: Every time I go to the grocery, the clerk asks me if I save stamps. I always say no, but sometimes I get them anyway. B: Oh, never turn them down. You can always find someone who'll take them. People spend hours pasting them in little books, and when a book is full, they drive miles to a redemption center where the stamps can be traded for things like pillow cases, or playing cards, or garden tools. But you have to save millions of them to get anything worth having.
Turn them down-refuse them Redemption center 用赠券换取礼品的商店 Trade-exchange
33. Best Seller
A: What's that book you have under your arm? B: It's the best seller everone's been talking about for the last six months. A: How in the world did you get a copy? B: I can't tell yet. I haven't got beyond the first chapter. A: If it's any good, I'll buy a copy when it comes out in the pocket edition.

34. Planning a Picnic
A: You know, let's do something we haven't done for a long time. I'd like to go on a picnic. Where could we go? Over to the park? B: No. I want to drive out into the country, find a little creek someplace away from the highway, and have a real old-fashioned picnic lunch with fried chicken, and potato salad, and dill pickles, and lemonade. A: Sounds like a good idea. Why don't we go this Sunday? B: I can't make it. I'm busy all weekend, but next Sunday I'm free. A: It's a date. You furnish the lunch and I'll provide the transportation.
Notes Real old-fashioned-typical Sound like 像是

35. Getting a Tan
A: What have you got there? B: It's my sun lamp. I'm taking it down to the electric shop to be fixed. There's something wrong with the wiring, It blows fuses whenever I plug it in. A: What in the world do you need a sun lamp for? B: Well, I want to get a tan and I haven't time to lie in the sun, so I lie under the sun lamp every night for five minutes. A: That's finr, as long as you don't fall asleep. An hour under one of those things and you'd be just a cinder.

36. Intermission
A: You were certainly lucky to get tickets for this play. We had to have our reservations in weeks ago. B: Tom picked them up this afternoon. Someone had just phoned in a last minute cancellation. A: Where are you sitting? B: Way up in the first balcony. We can see and hear fine, though. Isn't it a wonderful performance? A: Oh, yes, the acting's good, but don't you think that the star's a little old for her part? From where we are in the orchestra, you can see every wrinkle on her face. B: That's why I like balcony seats. You don't lose the illusion. A: Oh, there's the buzzer. I'll see you after the show.
Notes Phone in a cancellation
37. Planning a Vacation
A: I weet to the travel agency today and picked up these folders on Japan, Normandy, and Quebec. B: For this summer? Have we saved that much money? A: Not this summer. In two or three years, maybe. I have it almost all worded out. Here. Normandy, and then the Chateau country. Somewhere in these we'll have to work in Nice for the carnival. Then we take the Orient Express to Istanbul from there. B: But what do we do this year? A: Oh, I thought we'd go to one of the national parks-Yosemite, or Yellowstone, or maybe the Grand Canyon-that is, if it's all right with you.

38. What are You Doing This Summer?
A: What's you going to do this summer? B: I thought for a while I'd go to one of the summer schools, but I've decided I'm tired of classes and books and working all the time. I'm going to relax. I'm not going to do a thing for three months. A: Three months is a long time. When September comes you'll have got out of the habit of working. Why not just wait for two weeks and then see how you feel. B: I might, but I don't think I'll ever change my mind.
Get out of-forget
39. Deciding to Go to the Movies
A: Let's go to a show tonight. B: All right. Look in the movie section of the paper and see what's playing. A: Well, there's a western at the neighborhood theater and an epic at the United. Or, we can go to the drive-in movie to see two science fiction films if you like double features. B: Is that all there is to see? A: No. The Cinema is showing a Japanese movie, and there's a new French film at the Vogue. B: What's at the Broadway? A: Let's go there. That picture got good reviews. B: Okay, call and check what time the next show goes on. I hate to come in in the middle.

40. Going Walking 去散步
A: Yesterday my landlady seemed surprised when I told her I went for a walk every day. I think she didn't believe me. B: Oh, she probably believed you, but people don't do much walking anymore for pleasure, or even for exercise. Almost everyone has a car nowadays. A: I've noticed that no one I meet ever appears to be walking just for walking's sake. Perhaps I'd better stop doing it. B: No, I wouldn't stop. It's supposed to be good exercise, and there are a few walkers left. Probably more people would take walks if we valued exercise more and time less.
